What do European teachers need in order to teach effectively in a rapidly changing world?
This research report, produced within the XXI-EU-TEACH project, explores four emerging areas that are reshaping teacher education: technological empowerment, sustainable learning, entrepreneurship, and playful learning.
Drawing on a survey of 415 educational stakeholders and focus groups conducted in Denmark, Finland, Italy, Romania and Spain, the report maps how teachers and teacher educators across Europe perceive these themes — and how well-prepared they feel to address them in the classroom.
International mobility as a driver of professional development is also examined in depth. The findings reveal strong consensus on what 21st-century teachers need, alongside a significant gap in training pathways to get them there.
