QYourself equips educators with knowledge, tools and ready-to-use materials on digital media literacy in order to tackle disinformation spreading within EU citizens.
Context
The number of information sources is infinite in a digital society. We are constantly receiving messages and it is our responsibility to classify them as true or false. The lack of tools and skills to differentiate disinformation formats makes EU citizens a target for disinformation. Education promotes better informed citizens, but identifying veracity of messages is not part education programs. Thus, most Europeans are not aware of the minimal skills needed to identify false information. Students of journalism are thoughtfully upskilled on source & information selection. This partnership transfers a journalistic approach for source& information identification to different learning contexts. The final aim is to create an innovative teaching path for educators to incorporate critical thinking & source /information verification strategies in a wide range of education programs as regular part of their teaching activities.
Objectives
- To raise awareness about the countless false messages in the net and the danger of sharing information without a previous verification. The aim is to build capacity of european citizens on information and source validation and promote the development of critital thinking and media literacy at various educational levels;
- To improve the competences of educators and other adult education staff. In the first stage of the project, 15 educators involved in the project will analyse the DigCompEdu framework. The understanding of these studies builds trainers’ capacity for the next step of the project: the analysis of the university course for journalism students on information veracity and its transfer to the new target groups in non- academic teaching situations.;
Activities
- Nationals desk and field reserarches on current needs on misinformation in 4 adult scenarios + 1 school, examining and visualizing the DigCompEdu Framework and European Commission’s Guidelines for Educators, analysing the university’s curriculum;
- International Teacher Training Strategies to verify Sources and Texts: Course curriculum, implementation & delivery in Spain with 10 trainers and 2 experts attending and 3 trainers delivering (2 days)
- Digital upskilling for Educators on selection, use and creation of digital content using tools such as: H5P, canva, genially, moodle. 8 Hours digital Training.
- Blended teacher training courses (national versions) on strategies & tools to tackle misinformation. 5 different courses for 5 teaching contexts: 4 adult scenarios and 1 school scenario.
- Online upskilling for 15 trainers + 1 media expert on how to navigate and upload materials to the moodle platform of the university EHU
- Training on using social media digital networking tools with the aim to support educators in the development and delivery of teaching strategies that include digital media literacy skills
- Monitoring activities for the new teaching paths
Resources
The final tangible results are relevant supporting tools for the creation of teaching materials and activities that support teachers and trainers in the development of materials and teaching strategies to enable learners in different learning sectors to identify the veracity of texts (School & Adult)
