Discipline, loyalty, multiculturalism: sport plays a very important role in our lives.

It is a powerful tool that helps to do team building, sublimate conflicts by transforming them into healthy competition and improve physical and mental health in a creative way.

Sport can change the world and strengthen social ties, promoting solidarity, respect and peace.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a serious impact on individuals, societies, organisations and economies. Measures put in place to defeat the pandemic have touched every aspect of our lives, including sport.

However, sport itself can play a role in building resilience and recovering from the pandemic. This is why it is important to stay physically fit, but also socially active.

Our individual sills can help us experience creative ways to improve our health and well-being through sport and physical activity even from the confines of our own homes.

Sport can transcend borders, challenge stereotypes and help us reduce anxiety about the uncertainty that surrounds us.

On this International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, we offer you an overview of active initiatives on the topic, remembering that sport can be a great opportunity for social reintegration and lifelong learning.

Sports and Physical Activity as Strategies to Develop Socio-emotional Competences of young people in conflict with the law and at risk

AG4C takes sport and physical activity as a starting point for the development of competences for young people in conflict with the law and at risk in a playful and innovative way. Self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, relationship skills and social awareness: all vital socio-emotional competences for the autonomy and social re-integration of these young people.

AG4C project has developed a practice guide with sports and physical activities proposals to supports their development. If you are a community for minors and would like to try out this new approach with your educators and young people, contact Cloé Saint-Nom, cloe.saintnom@cesie.org.

Orienteering for social inclusion

A sport once practiced by the Swedish military, has now become a vital and innovative tool for the inclusion of disadvantaged young people with the ORIENT project. Thanks to the support of sports trainers and civil society organizations’ workers, different young people will discover their own local community through the co-creation of urban and natural orienteering routes.

Are you a sports trainer, do you represent a sports association or do you work in a civil society organization? Join the great world of orienteering!

For further information, please contact Cloé Saint-Nom, cloe.saintnom@cesie.org.

Do you want to acquire new competencies in the field of sports event organization and management? Sport for Change might have exactly what you were looking for!

The Sport For Change project offers a learning by mobility training course abroad during which participants will learn more about the role of volunteering in sport and how to organize and carry out sport events and possibly making them a tool for social inclusion and participation in sports. What is it all about? After an on-site training in Palermo, 4 young people will be able to get involved and test their skills in the field by supporting the project coordinator, ASOCIACIÓN INICIATIVA INTERNACIONAL JOVEN, in the implementation of sports activities and sports events in Malaga, Spain.

The learning mobility offers not only the opportunity to work on your skills and contribute to sporting events, but also to get a valuable cultural exchange experience and learn about different ways of working with and for sport in another European country!

Travel, food and accommodation costs are covered by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union.

The experience is scheduled for July 2021 so if you are interested or interested in receiving more information about it please contact Ettore Costa, ettore.costa@cesie.org.

YIBinS: integration and inclusion through sport!

YIBinS aims at improving the integration of young immigrants in the sport sector, through several initiatives involving local stakeholders in the social, educational, work and sport fields in various European countries (Italy, Finland, Spain, Bulgaria, Sweden).

At the moment three young people living in Palermo (from Tunisia, Guinea and Cameroon) are doing an apprenticeship at the ASD F.C.D. Virtus Olimpia, a football school for children and teenagers.

Over the course of two months they will have the opportunity to get to know the role and the typical activities carried out by a sport coach, learning the basic skills useful for running sport activities with minors.

If you want to know more about this and other initiatives that will take place in the coming months, write to Giuseppe La Farina: giuseppe.lafarina@cesie.org
