Labour inclusion of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants: COME IN informative event in Palermo

28 June 2019Migration, News

Refugees’, asylum seekers’ and migrants’ inclusion to the European society is directly connected with their participation in the labour market. But what are the possibilities of their employment? What requirements do they have to meet to be able to work in Italy? What can employers do to hire a refugee or an asylum seeker? Which legal and administrative aspects need to be taken in account?

Within the COME IN project, CESIE organised a half-day event dedicated to employers and experts working in the field of migration and labour integration with the aim of presenting the project and guiding them through the whole process of refugees’, asylum seekers’ and migrants’ employment.

Firstly, we discussed immigrants’ background, their legal status in Italy, residence permits and work permits valid after the introduction of the new law decree 113/2018 (Decreto Sicurezza) in December 2018.

Then we presented the types of work and internship contracts applicable to refugees and asylum seekers and we discussed available funding opportunities for employers, incentives and tax reliefs.

Based on the participants’ interest we added further information about self-employment opportunities for refugees and asylum seekers.

The event took place on June 19 in a beautiful venue of Teatro Garibaldi in Palermo and was followed by an aperitivo giving the participants an opportunity to continue the discussion, exchange experience and build networks in an unformal setting.
