How can artificial intelligence help prevent gender-based violence? What risks and opportunities does its use present? SHIELD is gathering opinions and perspectives to develop safer, more accessible and more ethical digital tools.
When violence goes digital
Stalking, sexual harassment, relationship violence and online grooming are some of the forms of gender-based violence that can affect young people in digital spaces too.
Artificial intelligence can help prevent and detect risk situations early, but using it in such sensitive contexts requires careful attention to ethical and safety issues.
This is why SHIELD is carrying out research on the ethical application of AI in preventing gender-based violence, with the aim of developing solutions that respond to young people’s needs.
Among these, the project will develop and test an AI-based chatbot designed to help identify risk factors linked to gender-based violence.
The chatbot will be part of a broader set of digital tools dedicated to prevention, awareness-raising and support for young people and those who work with them.
To design a truly useful tool, it is essential to understand people’s expectations, needs and perceptions regarding the use of artificial intelligence in this field.
Your opinion helps create the right tool
The SHIELD survey collects views on the use of artificial intelligence in preventing and combating gender-based violence.
The responses will feed into the study underpinning the chatbot’s design, helping us take into account different perspectives as well as issues of effectiveness, safety and ethics.
Taking part means contributing to a concrete phase of research and design of new digital tools for preventing gender-based violence.
