Communicating Ecological Responsibility in a Multicultural Environment: Communication Techniques for Mobilizing Youth Action on Climate Change

Climate ChangeEnvironmental problems and climate change are nowadays a reality that affects us all closely: the risks, for the planet and for future generations, are huge and force us to take urgent action. In order to reduce the effects and the negative consequences that could result, it’s necessary to use all the means and strategies at our disposal.

“Climate Change” project, fund by the Youth in Action (Action 3.2 Youth in the word) of the European Union, aims to raise awareness about these issues, especially for young people, and to change lifestyles and consumption habits, improving and making them more respectful towards the environment. First recipients of the project are young people, who are not only the future, but also the hope, the hope that a change can still take place. For this reason, it is required a serious and conscious awareness: something must be done for future generations, in order to enable them to continue taking advantage of the great resources offered by the Earth.

We focus on specific language and media in order to reach young people: Internet, Multimedia and Video. The international meeting held from the 2nd to 5th February 2013 in Kenya aimed to train young people on  video making. The purpose of the meeting was to plan the creation of a film/documentary that each project partner will present at the next meeting in Bulgaria. In particular, the meeting provided an opportunity for participants to learn about and become familiar with techniques, tools and programs useful for staging the video. In fact, the trainers explained the rules and the basics in video making and important communications aspects to be able to reach as many young people as possible. Everyone shared its experiences, strategies and proposals to fight against climate change.

It  was an interesting experience, constructive and stimulating, enabling partners to meet, discuss and visit a beautiful place, full of green, nature, with friendly and hospitable people.
