The 26th of June is the day celebrated worldwide with an increasing awareness about the hazards of drug addiction and illegal trafficking. Despite the international community has increased its efforts, drug abuse is still a serious threat to public health, which damages young people in particular. It also undermines national security as well as political stability and sustainable development of nations all around the world.
CESIE supports this international day, on behalf of the consortium members of the CAPPYC project “European implementation of CAPPYC (Cannabis Abuse Prevention Program for Young Consumers) and evaluation of their results using a scale measuring attitudes towards drug use” www.cappyc.eu, promoting less cannabis use amongst young people aged between 15 and 18 years old, by directly influencing underlying attitudes towards its use.
Opportunity to discuss the first results of the local implementation of the CAPPYC prevention programme in Italy, Spain, Rumania and Portugal was given during the last meeting, organized by CESIE the 12/06/2015, linking back to two of the main simultaneous and specific objectives of the prevention project:
- To learn about young people’s opinions regarding cannabis use. The project partners agreed on a questionnaire (with different measurement scales for the most relevant psychosocial variables for predisposition towards cannabis use amongst the adolescent-youth population) to be simultaneously administered to the young people participating in the project in all four countries.
- To offer participation in an essentially educational prevention programme, which aims to change attitudes directly or indirectly favourable towards it use – by designing a prevention program (based on a successful initiative undertaken in Spain, called “Pasa la vida”), administered similarly over several session sin these countries.
During the next meeting in October in Bucharest (hosted by AMOS) we will be able to analyse jointly final data findings and compare these at EU level. The next event will also provide space for the preparation of content and format of the Final Conference in early 2016.

The Cannabis Abuse Prevention Program for Young Consumers (CAPPYC) is an initiative supported by the European Commission in response to the call for proposals by the 2013 Drug Prevention and Information Programme, with the objective of promoting less cannabis use amongst young people aged between 15 and 18 years old, by directly influencing underlying attitudes towards its use.
