The mitigation of climate change is not just an economic project, but rather a cultural initiative that must be supported in all countries. Upspace is a project that aims to involve school communities to promote more sustainable lifestyle among youth, as there can be no cultural revolution without education.

On December, 12th and 13th 2024, representatives of 4 organisations and 4 schools coming from Italy, Germany, Serbia and Greece met in Palermo to start working on a project that in the forthcoming years will try to make a significant impact on local, national and international level in terms of mitigation of climate change.

Specifically, the main goal of the project consists in fostering the integration of sustainable development in secondary schools’ curricula and contributing to the enhancement of the teachers’ and students’ green skills and key competences on upcycling and urban regeneration processes, seen as key ways to inspire a change in the lifestyles of the younger generation.

To this end, special attention will be paid to engagement and cooperation with policymakers and stakeholders in the field of sustainable development, as their involvement is critical to investigating how education and training can support the transition to a more sustainable and resource-efficient society and economy.

Partners discussed thoroughly about the next steps to be taken in order to reach these goals and to raise local, national and European awareness about the environment issues and climate change challenges. Now, partners are actively working on the development of content and material for the Future Oriented Curriculum for teachers and students that will be later implemented in schools, as well as on the identification of policy-makers and stakeholders to be later involved in specific events to promote exchange of views on how to integrate environmental issues in schools’ curricula.

More actions will take place in the coming months: write to Alice Schirosa to learn about all the news, alice.schirosa@cesie.org.

Promoting healthy relationships: two workshops for young people

In Europe, the phenomenon of child sexual exploitation remains undeclared due to lack of data and awareness. The JERICHO workshops, conducted with young people aged 14-17, promoted affective education, respect and consent, highlighting the urgency of ongoing school-based interventions to prevent violence and toxic behavior.
