Peer to Peer Players has completed, in the past few days, the training course on the promotion of the psycho-physical well-being of young people, aimed at a group of students belonging to two schools in the historical centre of Palermo, specifically the Istituto Magistrale Statale “Regina Margherita” and the Liceo Scientifico Statale “Benedetto Croce”.

The students, who in an initial phase spontaneously applied for the role of peer-counselors, were selected through an interview and chosen to be part of the group of youths supporting their peers.

Some of the main issues addressed with the students during the training course were violence and cyberbullying, extremist behaviour and loss of reality dimension, violation of privacy and security, use and abuse of web-sponsored substances, risks, hoaxes, emulation and deep web.

In fact, the Peer to Peer Players project has the purpose of promoting psychosocial well-being among young people and strengthening their knowledge of risk behaviours regarding the use of the web and the use of psychoactive substances.

The role of the “peer-counselor” arises from the need to provide young people with a reference person who can support them, activating a support network ” of peers ” and building a relationship of trust between youths of the same age, with the aim of addressing together problems related to well-being and the protection of their health, to guide their peers towards conscious and responsible choices, with particular reference to the use of the web and psychoactive substances and their possible link.

The peer counseling service can take place face to face or through the online platform, created ad hoc and managed by peer-counselors, who will respond to the requests they receive from their peers in total anonymity, with the constant supervision of web experts and psychologists.

About the project
