Nowadays, since the first phases of schooling, children are exposed to multiple stimuli and inputs, and therefore, parents, teachers, and the school institutions need to develop new strategies to cope with the educational challenges deriving from that.

As part of the project BODI – Cultural diversity, body, gender, health in early childhood education, the pedagogical-anthropological research in the five partner countries was recently concluded and there will soon be available in Italian a reader of school practices in early childhood education referring to the topics of the project and a compendium on cultural diversity based on the methodology of ‘critical incidents’ developed by the French social psychologist and educator Margalit Cohen-Emerique.

In addition to that, on occasion of the partner meeting hosted by Kindervilla in Innsbruck (Austria) last November, the partnership has also finalised the activities about parenting and for raising children awareness on the BODI topics. Over the next few months such activities will be tested through workshops with parents and children in local schools, and then they will be collected in two manuals aimed at improving the ability of school institutions in dealing with cultural diversity to ensure the inclusion and the participation of children and parents from various socio-cultural backgrounds.

After the successful training of 12 kindergarten teachers through workshops that took place last May, on the 17th and 23rd February, from 3 to 6 PM, CESIE will hold two training sessions for 15 parents about cultural diversity, children psycho-emotional wellbeing, gender stereotypes and sexuality through the critical incidents methodology and non-formal education activities. After that, in March we will start the workshops in schools with teachers and children from two age groups (3-4 and 5-6 years), during which two educators will implement various activities related to health, tolerance, harmony within the family system and prevention of sexual violence.
