The worst way to find a mentor is to go looking for one. The best way is to see what is already there.

Teacher mentoring is a topic that is still unaddressed in Italy. On the contrary, the mentor is a figure of reference for many german teachers. They are able to influence and support teachers throughout the course of their career, enabling them to enhance their interpersonal and organizational skills, with a focus on encouraging students in the classes in which they teach, regardless of the subject that is studied.

This is what we learned during the meetings held between March 6 and 10, 2023 at the Gymnasiale Oberstufe des Schulzentrums Carl von Ossietzky in Bremerhaven, where we had the opportunity to learn about part of the mentoring programs used by German teachers and adapt the mentoring program implemented in co-design to the Match the Mentor platform.

Based on the latest research and analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of our program, we were able to achieve our goals:

  • clarify the role of the online mentor;
  • restructure the learning paths by adapting them to the platform;
  • create a mentoring program usable online, both by mentors and mentees (the newly hired teachers).

Supporting teachers in the development of their profession, by sharing experiences between partners and the creation of an online mentoring program, will allow the exchange of best practices, information, news and innovative teaching methodologies between mentors and mentees from all over Europe.

If you are interested in taking part in the project and staying up-to-date on developments, the LOOP partnership invites you to participate remotely in the Final Conference of the project to be held in Braga, Portugal, July 6-7, 2023.

Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) is a fundamental pillar for children’s development and the creation of more equitable and inclusive societies. Scientific studies demonstrate that fair and high-quality access to early childhood services has a long-term positive impact on children’s well-being, cognitive skills, and socio-emotional development, contributing to reducing educational inequalities.
