How to foster the participation of local communities in environmental and climate change initiatives? How to make these actions more attractive and accessible? How can we integrate the citizen science approach in innovative paths of environmental education for adults?
These are just few questions that were thoroughly discussed during the consortium meeting that took place in Gottingen, Germany, on the 11th and 12th April. GEA partners gathered at the premises of BUPNET to evaluate the progress achieved and specially to cooperate on the finalisation of the online training course which will be tested in their countries: Italy, Belgium, Greece, Estonia, Germany, Macedonia, Lithuania.
Building on the results of the initial cross-country analysis (available at: https://report.geaeducation.eu/it/) the course is targeted at adults educators, with the aim to increase opportunities for all adults to engage with their communities in environmental and climate actions while enhancing their critical thinking abilities. The course will be freely and openly available on the project’s website in English and in partners’ national languages, and will include the following topics:
- Principles of non-formal and informal environmental education;
- Integrating individual responsibility and media literacy into environmental education;
- Fostering engagement in environmental and climate actions through citizen science;
- Promoting networking and multi-stakeholder approaches to environmental engagement;
- Designing participative environmental and climate actions.
During the month of May, project partners will involve 15 adult educators to test the new e-learning programme in each country, through a blended methodology.
