The final results of CLARITY: Clear Language Actions Responding with Information for migrants in employment project, designed to increase the European Education and Vocational Training System quality and attractiveness, will be presented at the Provincial Motorization Office of Palermo, in via Fonderia Oretea 52, 2nd floor, on the 28th of September at 11.30 a.m. and the conference will be held by CESIE – European Centre of Studies and Initiatives together with Centro Astalli.

CLARITY is part of the sectorial programme Leonardo Da Vinci on “Promoting Health and techniques to prevent adult immigrants road accidents”, by the European Commission.

The Head of Regional Employment Agency Dr. Di Liberti, the Responsible for Regional Department of Education and Training Dr.Tosi, City Councillor Fabrizio Ferrandelli and cultural mediators from CLARITY, professionals in promoting road safety, will attend at the event.

CLARITY was created in response to the fact that many immigrant workers don’t have full knowledge of the language spoken in the country where they live. Some of them attend basic training courses, but the majority of them does not understand their content because of this linguistic obstacle. Finally in most cases immigrant workers are unable to understand security systems, with the specific needs linked to their occupations. This fact becomes in the end a serious risk for themselves, their employers and the whole community.

Why focusing on road safety?

Obtaining a drive licence means not only greater autonomy but also more chances to find a good job.

Furthermore, every year the number of foreign citizens involved in deathly road accidents, or at least very serious, amounts more or less to 20% of the total number, with peaks reaching 25%. Considering that nowadays the immigrants living in our country, on a regular basis or not, are approximately 10% of the total population, the number of immigrants involved in road accidents is at least twice the number of Italian citizens involved in the same.
