Which are the key needs of the migrant population in order to become independent and active citizens? How can we enable professionals working with migrants to empower their beneficiaries and support them in their journey to autonomy?

From September 2020, the Citizen of the World project sets out to find solutions to these questions. The project mainly aims at strengthening professionals who work with migrants at risk of social exclusion through more tailored educational offers in Swede, Iceland, the Czech Republic and Italy. These will be based on the real needs of both, migrants and professionals working in the sector.

The project’s kick-off meeting has been held online, due to the Covid-19 restrictions, the 22nd and 23rd of October, bringing together the whole consortium in order to discuss the first steps of the project, namely the field research on professionals and migrants’ real needs, which will be implemented at the end of 2020 and beginning of 2021.

Based on the results from the initial research, collected and analyzed in the Citizen of the World State of the Art Report on migrants’ real needs, partners will afterwards work on the creation of contents for the International Handbook whose main objective is to provide detailed information and educational material to strengthen and increase those skills that professionals need in order to better support migrants in their personal journeys.

In a further step, the partnership will transfer these contents into an interactive e-learning platform, disseminating the results and making them broadly available to everybody who is interested in the topic.
