Do you want to understand how the scientific research system in Tunisia works? The DIRASA project (Definition of a Renewal of Research Governance in Tunisia) has published an Overview of the governance of scientific research in Tunisia, providing a detailed systemic analysis and concrete recommendations and potential strategies to improve the Tunisian research system.

The DIRASA Report offers an in-depth assessment of the governance of university research in Tunisia, comparing it with the experiences of European universities. This analysis has included:

  • The analysis of the main documentary sources related to scientific research governance in Tunisia,
  • The results of a self-assessment questionnaire distributed to the Tunisian universities partnering in the project, which allowed the collection of valuable data on strengths, weaknesses, and development needs, offering a clear view of the current dynamics in which the universities operate;
  • The feedback from focus groups held during meetings in Sfax and Monastir and from interviews with the directors of research governance structures in Tunisia, which proved essential in better understanding the challenges and opportunities in the country’s scientific research sector.

The report focuses on four main areas:

  • Organization and management of research,
  • Democracy of research,
  • Coherence of research,
  • Effectiveness of research.

This report represents a strategic resource for planning future activities of the DIRASA project. The collected information has guided the various training sessions for academic and administrative staff of the 13 public universities involved and will guide the cascading training sessions that universities will carry out for the skill development of their staff, improving efficiency and collaboration within and among institutions.
