DIRASA (Definition of a Renewal of Research Governance in Tunisia) has reached an important milestone in its commitment to improving scientific research management and quality at Tunisian universities by conducting training activities for academic and administrative staff at the 13 participating public universities.
In recent months, 3 thematic workshops have been organized in Tunisia, hosted respectively by the University of Jendouba, the University of Kairouan, and the University of Gafsa. These workshops covered topics such as research center management and evaluation, ethical standards and anti-plagiarism systems, and the valorization of research and its connection to innovation. These trainings have not only disseminated best practices from the involved European universities but also facilitated the transfer of skills developed by participants to their institutions.
The thematic training in Palermo, organized by CESIE, brought together all partners and focused on European funding programs for scientific research, particularly Horizon Europe. This week-long training enabled participants to acquire essential skills for drafting high-quality project proposals, understanding the proposal evaluation process, and integrating the principles of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI).
In addition to the training, operational guidelines have been developed and distributed to support ongoing training across all Tunisian universities, given through a “cascade” approach, thereby allowing the transfer of acquired knowledge and skills to an even larger number of university staff. The involvement of the Tunisian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the National Agency for the Promotion of Scientific Research in Tunisia has helped outline a training plan and strategy for change aligned with national policies, facilitating the implementation of project activities and increasing the likelihood of the project’s long-term sustainability.
The collaborative and training-oriented approach of DIRASA – both nationally and internationally – fosters the creation of collaborative networks between universities, research centers, and other institutions, enhancing scientific cooperation and dialogue with society while aligning Tunisian research with international standards. This strengthens its competitiveness and integration into the European research space.
