How can we presume to tackle gender-based violence without challenging the inequalities that permeate our society?

Ahead of 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the DialoghiAMO festival returns with a programme of events that invites us to examine gender-based violence from different and complementary perspectives: from sport to care work, from disability to gender equality.

Addressing violence means questioning the inequalities that still shape everyday life: from the workplace to sports, from the distribution of care responsibilities to equal opportunities - to the possibility to fully participate in social life. It means challenging gender stereotypes and roles and building more equitable and inclusive relationships, spaces and communities.

Work and care: a private matter or a collective issue? | 11 November 2026, Municipal Historical Archive, Palermo

Is care an individual responsibility or a matter that concerns society as a whole? And what happens when care responsibilities intersect with working life?

On 11 November, together with the Municipality of Palermo, we will be discussing the relationship between care, work, wellbeing and gender equality, as part of the European EQUAL-CARE project, under the umbrella of which CARE-DIVIDE is being hosted.

Through the launch of Martina Riina’s book ‘Il latte è di tutte’ (the milk is of everyone), a panel discussion with representatives from institutions and the professional sector, and the presentation of the results of the two projects, the event aims to prompt reflection on the social value of care, gender inequalities and the need for a fairer distribution of responsibilities.

An opportunity for dialogue to imagine, together, more inclusive working environments and communities, in which care is recognised as a collective responsibility.

Media and care: what stories do we tell? | 17 November 2026, online

Who is the focus of care in the stories we read, watch and share every day? And how do these portrayals influence gender roles?

In Europe, informal care work still falls largely on women, with tangible consequences for employment, income and pensions. This imbalance has not only economic and social roots, but also cultural ones, and this is where the media play a decisive role: the way in which they portray reality helps to shape our perceptions and define roles and expectations. All too often, however, care work is still portrayed as an almost exclusively female responsibility, reinforcing the stereotypes that fuel the gender gap.

For this reason, as part of the European CARE-DIVIDE project, we are inviting media professionals and content creators to a free information session. Together, we will explore how to promote fair and pluralistic representation that celebrates the diversity of care roles and challenges gender stereotypes.

LET’S BLOW THE WHISTLE! Red card to stereotypes and gender-based violence | 25 November 2026, Wisser Club, Palermo

Wednesday 25 November, to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we’ll be taking to the pitch for the second semi-final match of the SISTERS mixed five-a-side football tournament.

An opportunity to combine a passion for sport with social commitment: through the Extra-time campaign – developed in collaboration with the ToGetTherə collective – we will work alongside the teams of young people to address the issues of respect and inclusion, to put a stop to gender-based violence and to promote sport that is open to everyone.

Conclusions

Through these three events, DialoghiAMO invites us to reflect together on how care work, sport and gender equality form part of a shared journey toward combating violence and discrimination.

Three different, yet deeply interconnected, perspectives that enable us to examine the roles and stereotypes that permeate our society, while promoting a culture based on equality, participation and respect.
