How to set the stage for a successful season of hotels, restaurants and other enterprises in hospitality and tourism? How to improve their customer service? How to boost the productivity and motivation of their staff?
Success in tourism and hospitality business is strongly dependent on the quality of customer services and clients’ satisfaction. To provide high standard service competent and motivated employees are essential. However, maintaining the quality during high season might be challenging even in the best teams. In summer months, the number of guests grows and employers have to react by recruiting additional seasonal staff to cover the increased demand. Employees hired for the peak season only – seasonal staff – have to catch up with the pace of work, learn all tasks and adapt to the new working environment in very short time and often under stressful circumstances. Seasonal employees therefore usually don’t receive sufficient training which results in lower productivity and motivation and leads to the risk of declined service quality.
SeasonReady project intends to support the competitiveness of enterprises in tourism and hospitality by providing a work-based learning programme designed to improve professional competences and motivation of seasonal staff. The training programme will be tailored to the needs of employers and seasonal workers respecting their preferences and regional contexts. The training will provide in-house trainers with the skills and techniques to train their seasonal workforce in three key areas – front-line operations, food and beverages services and housekeeping.
On 22nd and 23rd May 2018, partners of the project met in Palermo where they shared the research results and discussed the framework and content of SeasonReady training programme for seasonal staff in tourism and hospitality.
