SeasonREADY: Final Resources for Seasonal Hospitality Workers now available!

An important milestone in the SeasonREADY project delivery took place with the launch of the final project outcomes to Italian stakeholders in tourism and hospitality in November as part of an international event organised by Confersercenti Palermo. To read more about this event please click here.

The project SeasonREADY came to an end on 31^st December 2019. The partnership met for the final time in Pyrgos, Greece on 11^th and 12^th December to discuss the achievements of the project in all partner countries and to plan further sustainability activities that will ensure the longevity of the project results.

The meeting in Pyrgos also included the delivery of a final conference titled “Training of seasonal staff in the field of tourism and hospitality: challenges and opportunities” organised by Olympic Training & Consulting Ltd and supported by the Peloponnese Tourism Organization, the Public Institute of Vocation-al Training of Pyrgos and the Department of Tourism Management of the University of Patras. The conference brought together public authority representatives, small and medium-sized enterprises, NGO’s, experts and academics in tourism and hospitality to showcase the final results, discuss and present new training initiatives and good practices in the field of work-based learning (WBL) in the tourism and hospitality industry and offer recommendations for the adoption of WBL in small-medium hospitality enterprises.

As partner and expert in professional skills development, CESIE presented the SeasonREADY methodology guide for WBL in the hospitality sector which provides a universal model for implementation of work-based learning (WBL) for seasonal hospitality workers and a practical and easy to understand tool to design and implement effective training customised to the specific needs of businesses and their staff. The development of the Guide was led by CESIE and is based on the results of extensive research carried out in Croatia, Greece and Italy, exploring the current situation of seasonal employment and training needs of seasonal staff, employers, their managers and in-house trainers.

During the final session, in which participants had the opportunity to learn about tourism and hospitality education policies and practices, CESIE presented one of their past Erasmus+ KA2 projects called TTRAIN – Training for Tourism as a good practice project for improving the qualifications of unskilled employees in the tourist sector by creating a strong and comprehensive learning model for vocational instructors who provide on-the-job-training.

Research report on local/regional contexts and preconditions for successful introduction of work-based learning that brings together results from the first step in the project implementation – needs assessments, in order to put the project in the context of tourism and hospitality and provide basic information necessary to understand the logic of the project’s intervention.

Methodology guide for work-based learning in the hospitality sector which is focused on the key elements of the successful preparation and implementation of WBL reflecting the specifics of seasonal staff in tourism and hospitality.

Manual for trainers which presents a universal model of WBL which can be applied in different national contexts. The manual is focused on the key elements of the successful preparation and implementation of WBL adapted to address specific issues faced by seasonal staff in tourism and hospitality.

Guide with recommendations for the adoption of work-based learning in small and medium hospitality enterprises was developed by Croatian Chamber of Trades and Crafts. The main objective of Guide is to recommend strategies for the adoption of WBL for the training of seasonal staff in SMHE, propose ways to overcome existing obstacles and suggest systemic changes at the regional or national level.
