How to use Remembrance Education to stimulate the development of critical thinking among young students? Which non-formal education practices can be adapted for school work?
The second meeting of the partners of the project RETHINK – Remembrance Education for THINKing critically took place in The Hague on 15 and 16 September 2018. The project aims to collect good practices of Remembrance Education developed by memorials, museums, organizations and educational centers and to create resources for the training of teachers and educators so that they can implement some of these practices in a school context.
During the meeting, the results of the evaluation of the RETHINK Database by the Advisory Board were presented. The Database gives the opportunity to those seeking non-formal education practices in Europe to obtain information on which structures offer non-formal activities related to the themes of remembrance education, peace education and prevention of radicalisation.
Are you a teacher or an educator? The Database can help you identify which organisations offer activities for your students, to be planned during guided tours or school trips abroad.
Do you represent a memorial or a museum or organisation active in Remembrance Education? You can give more visibility to your activities through the Database by filling in the RETHINK Survey.
At the same time, the work of the group of experts who have analysed the practices collected through the Database and who will carry out the work of testing the practices has been carried out. In the next few months, the experts will develop a Handbook for teachers on how to carry out Remembrance Education activities taking into account the peculiarities of the school context. In 2019, work will begin on the setting up of the RETHINK e-learning Platform, a platform to train teachers at carrying out the practices selected and adapted by the project.
The project has also set up the RETHINK Network, to facilitate collaboration among memorials, organisations and people working in the field of Remembrance Education in Europe. You can subscribe or register your organisation by filling in our form.

RETHINK is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme – Key Action 3 – Support for Policy Reform – Social inclusion through Education, Training and Youth.
The project aims to collect and upscale best practices in remembrance education developed by memorials, museums, organizations and educational centers active in this field and to produce teaching strategies tuned to formal education and work in classroom.
