After the end of the piloting phase aimed at testing the language MOOCs developed within the LangMOOCs – Language Massive Open Online Courses project, the partners of the project met in Berlin on September 15th and 16th to share the results of the piloting carried out in Greece, Italy, Germany, UK and Norway and to plan the final steps to be taken before the end of the project.
The meeting was an opportunity for partners to discuss about the strengths and weaknesses of the MOOCs and the Open Educational Resources composing them, which were identified through the piloting phase. Additionally, the partnership discussed about the finalisation of the language Open Educational Resources and possible ways to ensure their sustainability beyond the life-cycle of the project.
Indeed, five Open Educational Resources (OER) in each of the partnership languages (Greek, Italian, German, English and Norwegian) were developed, based on 6 common thematic sections and on shared learning objectives. The OERs produced are therefore different depending on the features of the language taught, but they are based on a common structure (addressing speaking, writing, listening and reading skills. The resources were then integrated into a MOOC based on a Moodle platform, which was piloted with non-academic learning providers, schools, language teachers, trainers but also individual learners. The language courses are still open and freely accessible.
During the meeting in Berlin, special attention was paid by the consortium to the delivery of the second and final version of the LangMOOCs toolkit, which is being finalised based on all partners’ contributions and the results of the piloting phase of the language MOOCs. The toolkit will soon be made available online.
Additionally, the partners had the chance to plan the international multiplier event which will take place in Hemel Hempstead, UK, on November 25th 2016, and the national events to be organised in all partner countries, with a view to present the results of the project.
LangMOOCs is a project co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme, KA2 Strategic Partnerships in the field of Adult education aiming to spread the use of Massive Open Online Courses for language learning in non-academic institutions.
