Do you know what is WED?

World Environment Day is an annual event which takes a great pride in being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. Through its events WED is considered one of the main instruments of the United Nations to stimulate worldwide awareness of the environment and encourage people to be more responsible and caring towards environment protection.

The 5th of June was chosen as a day for celebration as it marked the opening of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in 1972. Since then it has been a powerful generator of individual and collective ideas lobbying for the environment including events like street rallies, bicycle parades, green concerts, essay and poster competitions in schools, tree planting, recycling efforts, clean-up campaigns and much more.

The theme for 2012

Green Economy: Does it include YOU? aims to reminds us that the individual action of each one of us really counts. It is a brilliant occasion that gives you the opportunity and inspiration to become agents for change – rethink our actions, reconsider our responsibility in making a positive environmental change and certainly – think about what is within your powers as a personal contribution to positive environmental change.

Through its projects realized in a shared multicultural context CESIE advocates partnerships that support positive actions for environmental awareness and education, sustainable consumption and promotes young people’s active involvement in creating  a cleaner, greener and more sustainable environment. We are strongly supporting the World Environmental Day and we challenge you to join the celebration with your own ideas and actions.
