AmuNEET supports NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training) youth in Sicily by facilitating their transition to employment through a work-based learning experience in another EU country to integrate them into society and the labor market.

It started at the end of June 2024 the internship experience abroad for 24 young Sicilian NEETs between 18 and 29 years old selected within the project, implemented within the ALMA programme.

Through a call for selection published by CESIE ETS in March 2024, a selection process was launched, which saw the participation of many young unemployed, unemployable and not engaged in training. At the end of the selection process, 24 boys and girls, from all over Sicily, participated in a path to prepare for departure, carrying out non-formal education activities aimed at improving and developing soft skills such as the ability to work in a team, speak in public, and organise one’s own time, as well as an orientation path to understand the professional interests of each one and an English course to prepare for the experience abroad.

At the end of June, three groups of 8 participants, accompanied by the project tutors, left for the locations of Syros (Greece), Lisbon (Portugal) and Tàrrega (Spain).

In the destination countries, the three groups will be supported by partner organisations that will offer them assistance with accommodation, job placement and participation in training and cultural activities. The partner organisations have looked for companies in their territories, willing to host the trainees for 6 months, which would meet the interests and aspirations of each of the participants; at the same time, the partner organisations will organise cultural and training activities, such as language courses, which will enrich the experience of all the participants.

They are then doing a work related learning experience in companies specialised in different sectors, from tourism, to education, to culture, where a tutor supports them in the assignment of tasks and vocational training.

Upon their return, participants will be involved in a follow-up period during which orientation activities will be carried out to accompany them in their integration into the world of work.

The opportunity to have this experience abroad is a unique opportunity for many of the participants, which will have a strong impact on their lives.
