CESIE organised the second summit of the project “School on Cloud – Connecting Education to the Cloud for Digital Citizenship (SoC)”, co-funded by the LLP Programme – Action AC3 Multilateral Network, entitled “Cloud Computing and Education: the Future” and held at IBIS hotel in Palermo on Saturday 31st October and Sunday 1st November.
The project aims at exploring new dynamic methods in education by promoting Cloud initiatives in the public and private sectors.
The summit has been attended by 43 partners from 18 countries (Greece, UK, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Austria, Poland, Bulgaria, France, Ireland, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Turkey) and involved: schools, universities, companies, NGOs, National Authorities, research centres, associations and VET actors.
The network aims at analysing the way in which education can answer to the new ICT developments that are rapidly changing the labour market and society and at spreading as much as possible the opportunities offered by these powerful technologies.
The summit has been an opportunity to explore the future scenarios in using Cloud computing in education. The first day, during the plenary session, some experts, including Gianna Cappello a professor of the University of Palermo, presented their point of view on current challenges to introduce the Cloud system in education and in schools. Moreover, the second report of the project has been presented with several case studies on Cloud computing in education in the partner countries.
During these two days, the possible future scenarios in using cloud computing in education have been investigated from the viewpoints of three target groups: teachers, learners and managers. Different workshops have been organised using two different methodologies: the Delphi method with the aim of collecting and summarizing the diverse knowledge about the topic within the group through the use of a series of questionnaires; and the Creative Thinking method to generate new ideas on how approaching new technologies from the target groups’ viewpoints. Furthermore, social events such as the visit and the puppets’ show at the International Puppet Museum “Antonio Pasqualino” have been organized.
At the end of the summit, partners discussed about the next steps to take within the project.
