Understanding, preventing, detecting and addressing Online Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OSEA) through a holistic, multi-faceted and multisectoral approach.

Context

In a world evermore digitalized, with an increase in internet access and use, specially by young people during and after the Covid-19 pandemic, youth finds itself exposed to a number of risks in unsafe online spaces. The bE-aware project seeks to better understand, prevent, detect and address OSEA through a holistic, multi-faceted and multisectoral approach. The project was designed to contribute to youthʼs and citizenʼs understanding of the OSEA phenomena, its root causes, the risk and vulnerability factors, the impact, as well as the prevention and protection measures.

Objectives

  • To design educational modules and professional tools to prevent and address OSEA.
  • To build and strength the capacities of EU organizations to combat OSEA.
  • To promote youthʼs civic engagement for positive behaviour and safety online.
  • To facilitate youthʼs and citizenʼs understanding of mechanisms and risks on the internet and the media related to OSEA.

  • Peer to peer training on cybersecurity and grooming
  • Peer to peer training on gender and intersectional discrimination as risk factors
  • Development of the bE-aware Toolkit
  • Training sessions with professionals on youth OSEA on the internet
  • Real-life stories workshops with youth

Impact

  • 14 youth workers in different organizations acquire new tools to educate, better prevent and address OSEA through peer-to-peer trainings.
  • At least 105 youth workers/professionals acquire new skills on youth OSEA on the internet through training sessions.
  • At least 120 youth are empowered on OSEA risks and mechanisms and are engaged in transformative actions to give meaning to and claim their rights.
  • At least 900.000 people are aware of the mechanisms and risks on the internet and the media related to OSEA through the awareness raising campaign and mobile app.
