Human trafficking is a transnational crime involving thousands of organisations that systematically, exploit women and young girls. Usually, EU countries are the final destination of victims’ journey and in many cases, their desperate adventure starts in non-European States, where girls and women are recruited in rural areas, deceived and lured by false promises of a better life or simply sold to traffickers by their own families. Despite this, it worth mentioning that some EU member States, as Romania and Bulgaria, are deeply affected by the phenomenon of human trafficking and represent, today as yesterday, countries of departures and transition for many trafficked women.
On the 25th – 26th of June, within the framework of the Tolerant project, CESIE together with its project partners organised an online Transnational meeting in order to foster international dialogue and exchange best practices about reintegration and labour integration of victims of trafficking. Practitioners and experts from different part of Europe and Africa participated in the event, sharing their own experiences and learning from each other. In particular, eight human trafficking experts delivered as many enlightening presentations, giving way to positive and constructive Q&A sessions. Additionally, participants discussed about different themes during the exchange meeting; special attention was given to 3 main topics mainly related to service provision under the Covid-19 pandemic, prevention and awareness-raising campaign against trafficking for sexual exploitation, employability and reintegration of victims of human trafficking. Furthermore, this meeting led to the creation of new important links with NGO and grass-roots associations in countries of origin of VoT such as Kosovo, Albania and Nigeria. We get informed of the local context of countries represented in the workshop, casting a light on the most relevant problems that characterize service provision and labour integration for VoT before, during and after the Covid-19 crisis.
The transnational workshop represented also the right occasion for presenting the preliminary results concerning the labour integration services carried out by the partners in each partner country. As emerged from the presentation, we have been forced by the health crisis generated by the Coronavirus to adjust our service provision and thus to offer new concrete solutions for supporting under those circumstances. Although employability remains a constant issue, the Tolerant team will support VoT developing fundamental skills to enter the labour market in their respective country of stay.
