How to help migrant women in Europe to enhance their skills on media literacy?
How to raise awareness on the topic of media literacy?
On December 4th and 5th 2017, the first meeting of MedLIT – Media literacy for refugee, asylum seeking and migrant women took place at the University of Gloucestershire (Cheltenham).
The project aims to develop innovative tools to increase media and digital competences of low skilled/low qualifies refugee, asylum seeking and migrant women. It will allow many women to implement their media and digital competences in their daily life, making easier their job searching and their social inclusion in the local communities.
During the first partnership’s meeting, all partners shared their experiences and best practices learned in their local communities in order to analyse the needs for the project’s implementation to develop the following activities:
- Development of methodological approach and framework for the building of media and digital literacy skills and competences tailored to the needs of low skilled/low – qualified refugee, asylum seeking and migrant women.
- Creation of an online training tool for the building of media and digital literacy skills.
- Development of a peer – to – peer awareness raising methodology for migrant women involving them in an awareness raising/outreach campaign.
Migrant women will be involved in short face – to – face training activities that will help them to fill the gaps in media literacy competencies. At the end of this learning process, they will develop together a raising awareness campaign at European and national level.
MedLIT – Media literacy for refugee, asylum seeking and migrant women is co – financed by the European Commission thanks to Erasmus + programme, Strategic Partnership in the field of Adult Education.
