In recent years, the educational approach has seen a significant evolution, with innovative methods that aim to engage and inspire participants in more interactive and personal ways. One such method is the F.R.O.G. methodology, which has been successfully applied by Road to Freedom in various educational and training contexts. In Palermo, this methodology has found fertile ground within residential and detention facilities, demonstrating a significant positive impact. The recently concluded courses involved young adults from IPM ‘Malaspina’ and the USSM, as well as members of the ‘Sant’Onofrio’ recovery community in Trabia.
The trainings were distinguished by the use of interactive materials, such as videos and playing cards, and group activities that encouraged participants to reflect on their dreams, aspirations, desires, and hopes for the future. This dynamic approach allowed for a participatory and engaging learning environment where each individual was able to explore themselves and their passions.
The experience was described by the participants as very engaging. Through the proposed activities, they had the opportunity to embark on a journey of personal discovery, exploring their own potential and ambitions. The F.R.O.G. method proved to offer not only tools for reflection, but also for personal growth, helping participants develop greater awareness of themselves and their abilities.
Road to Freedom, based on the F.R.O.G. methodology, continues with research activities and formalization of the educational method. The project includes the creation of a Handbook and an introductory course that will be accessible on the platform. In addition to these resources, various educational materials specifically for people in conflict with the law, a comparative research report and a documentary video will also be available. These tools aim to further disseminate the Road to Freedom method, making it a valuable resource for educators and professionals in the field.
The adoption of the F.R.O.G. methodology in Palermo facilities has demonstrated how an innovative and interactive approach can have a significant impact on the lives of young adults in detention and recovery settings. Through the Road to Freedom project, these methodologies and educational resources can be further developed and shared, contributing to the personal growth and social reintegration of many other young people.
