You are kindly invited to a panel discussion celebrating the book launch of “CON IL SUD #unfuturomaivisto – Visioni e storie di un’Italia che può cambiare” (CON IL SUD #anunprecedentedfuture – visions and stories from the changing face of Italy) curated by Andrea di Consoli and Yari Selvetella. The event will take place on Thursday, March 16th at 18,30 in Palermo, at Ecomuseo Mare Memoria Viva (located in Via Messina Marine, 27).

The photographer Letizia Battaglia and Giovanna Melandri, president  of MAXXI Foundation, will take part in the event along with Cristina Alga (Ecomuseo Mare Memoria Viva), Tiziana Giordano (CESIE), Alessandro Imbriaco and Fabio Severo, who curated the project “Corpi di Reato. Un’archeologia visiva dei fenomeni mafiosi nell’Italia contemporanea (Bodies of Evidence. Visual archeology of Mafia phenomena in Contemporary Italy)”.
The discussion will be introduced and moderated by Carlo Borgomeo – president of Fondazione CON IL SUD.

The presentation is the closing event of the third Nuove Pratiche Fest, a festival created by Clac and Pescevolante, sponsored by Palermo Office of Cultural Affairs.

The book explores the experiences of “an unprecedented future” through the views of writers, intellectuals, economists, sociologists, members of government bodies who analyse and identify strengths and weaknesses in our complex society. Among the book’s contributors, you will find Franco Arminio, Pietro Barbieri, Leonardo Becchetti, Rosy Bindi, Vincenzo Boccia, Carlo Borgomeo, Mimmo Calopresti, Raffaele Cantone, Franco Cassano, Domenico Cersosimo, Luigi Ciotti, Emma Dante, Domenico De Masi, Giuseppe De Rita, Giuseppe Guzzetti, Marco Imperiale, Giuseppe Laterza, Alessandro Leogrande, Geneviève Makaping, Raffaele Nigro, Valeria Parrella, Carmen Pellegrino, Franco Roberti, Marco Rossi-Doria, Chiara Saraceno, Aurelia Sole, Carlo Trigilia, Giusy Versace, Gianfranco Viesti and Marco Vitale along with Edgar Morin and Amartya Sen, Nobel Prize Winner in Economics.

The book tells the stories of thousands of citizens and organizations who have already started building a new future, dealing with daily problems and persistent issues of the disadvantaged areas in Southern Italy. The book features a photoessay from Italian Southern regions, realised thanks to #unfuturomaivisto, an online photo contest.

The royalties will be donated to Liberos, a Sardinian organisation which implemented an innovative project aimed at promoting reading as a means of social inclusion in small and isolated communities.
