In a context marked by increasingly rapid economic, technological and environmental transformations, the way business is conducted is also undergoing profound change.
The digital revolution, driven by technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, automation and cloud computing, has transformed the way products and services are designed, distributed and experienced. At the same time, there is growing focus on environmental sustainability, social responsibility and ethical practices – factors that increasingly influence the choices of consumers and organisations.
In the face of these changes, there is a need to rethink higher education programmes dedicated to entrepreneurship. Today, training new entrepreneurs means providing tools that combine innovation, sustainability and strategic vision, preparing students to tackle increasingly complex economic, social and environmental challenges.
Despite the quality of European academic provision, however, many courses continue to focus on traditional models, leaving little room for innovative methodologies that enable the development of more sustainable, flexible and innovation-oriented businesses.
This need has given rise to SAMPLE, an initiative that aims to modernise entrepreneurship education through accessible tools, interdisciplinary approaches and innovative training methodologies. The aim is to help develop educational pathways that are more closely aligned with the needs of the contemporary market, integrating sustainability, digitalisation and new entrepreneurial skills.
Through practical activities, SAMPLE develops up-to-date educational resources dedicated to the creation of Sustainable Market Platforms and Hybrid Business Models, in line with European priorities and frameworks such as EntreComp, the European framework for entrepreneurial competences that promotes creativity, initiative, strategic thinking and the transformation of ideas into social, cultural and economic value.
The approach adopted bridges the gap between traditional university teaching and the practical demands of the workplace, fostering the development of key skills such as strategic planning, resource management and adaptability, which are increasingly in demand in today’s economic landscape.
Students and academic staff have access to real-world case studies, interactive simulations and practical examples that help transform innovative ideas into sustainable and competitive business ventures.
At the same time, particular attention is paid to the international dimension of entrepreneurship, encouraging an open, transnational outlook capable of looking beyond local boundaries and developing within European and global contexts.
Learning methods are also being reimagined through flexible pathways that combine online learning and face-to-face activities, interactive digital tools, customisable modules and research-based approaches. A methodology that promotes continuous learning, autonomy and professional adaptability.
Thanks to collaboration across different fields — including business, technology and environmental sciences — SAMPLE also helps to bridge the gap between the skills developed in university courses and those required by the contemporary market, supporting the creation of innovative enterprises capable of generating positive social, environmental and economic impact.
In an era characterised by profound and continuous transformation, the initiative promotes new, more sustainable, inclusive and future-oriented ways of understanding business and training.
