In a classroom of students, one of the main problems is related to their involvement in discussion. To remedy this, we often turn to collaborative work and also to educational technology (EdTech) that effectively maintain attention, gather input and facilitate collaboration and discussion among peers and with teacher. Such tools are easily integrated into lessons and enhance the learning environment.

A partnership meeting of project iLikeIT2 – Learning Through Innovative Collaboration Enhanced by Educational Technology was held in Palermo on 20 and 21 June 2022. Project iLikeIT2 is aimed at contributing to the improvement of collaborative work processes in the classroom by developing a new online tool, the iLikeIT2 software.

After the comparative analysis of the major learning tools was completed, the partners carried out piloting tests with some of the tools and conducted “reflexive conversations” (focus groups) in order to derive indications and suggestions for the development of the iLikeIT2 software. The results of this research are available in the Guidelines to enhance the quality of Collaborative Work through Educational Technology available in our Digital Library.

From this research, the alpha version of the iLikeIT2 software was developed. During the Palermo meeting, the partners tested the reliability and robustness of the prototype and collected data on anomalies to be solved and desired functionalities to be introduced in the beta version that will be used by the partners for further field tests before the release of the final version. The partners also discussed the development of the pedagogical strategy that will guide teachers using the iLikeIT2 software in their classroom use.

Research was presented to the 24th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCI International 2022 (HCII 2022), and published on Learning and Collaboration Technologies. Novel Technological Environments: 9th International Conference, LCT 2022, Held as Part of the 24th HCI International Conference, HCII 2022, Virtual Event, June 26 – July 1, 2022, Proceedings, Part II. Springer-Verlag, Berlin, Heidelberg.
