How to promote active citizenship path among young people?
I Giovani Parlano con l’Europa second cycle of intercultural meetings has just ended. It involved young Italians and migrants living in Palermo, held at CESIE, and aimed at enhancing participation in active citizenship.
During the project activities the participants, natives and migrants, shared and exchanges experiences, ideas and values on citizenship.
They had the chance to deal with different topics, such as:
- European culture and geography,
- job orientation, the importance of the soft skills, considered as much important as the hard skills,
- the role of active citizen at a local and a European level.
Through the dialogue, the exchange of ideas, and comparison of experiences, the participants learned how to give a positive contribution to the territory they live in and how to get involved actively in their own community. They are now aware of their own skills and competences and know how to use them in their personal and professional development.
In these meetings through job interview simulation and CV writing, the participants could experience the challenges and the needs of the external world and so could prepare themselves to face them.
Despite their young age and the multiple difficulties many of them had to face during the hard migration process they went through, their enthusiasm, their desire of knowledge and of interaction with the environment they live in and the will to grow up in a heterogeneous group represent the best incentive and boost of this project.
These project activities come from the belief that the mutual exchange of experiences, the dialogue among different cultures and a better knowledge of the territory we live in, bring us to a deeper awareness of our role in the community, our ourselves and of our rights and duties.
I Giovani Parlano con l’Europa is co-funded by “Giovani per il Sociale”, an initiative promoted by the Department of Youth and National Civic Service – Presidency of the Council of Ministers (Italy).
The projectaims at promoting the dialogue among cultures and the social inclusion of young people considered an important instrument to promote the European citizenship and at spreading the opportunities and initiatives offered by the European Commission.
The project involves three partners:
- Cooperazione Senza Frontiere(coordinatore);
- ENGIM internazionale;
- CESIE.
