Moving to the closing of the project “Creating Educational Programs on Anti-Discrimination on a par with EU Standards”, alias EDUPAD, it is time to talk about achievements and outcomes.
The first months of the project were dedicated to a research on the primary school curricula of Italy and of Turkey to identify teaching on anti-discrimination, also specifically related to the theme of the project, i.e. disability. The research report from this activity will be published on CESIE website and on the project website in the next weeks.
Based on the results of the research, the project partners were able to develop a set of specific educational materials subsequently used in primary schools in Istanbul to raise awareness about the fight against discrimination of people with special needs. A set of activity cards were hence produced, dealing with everyday-life issues that people with disability may encounter and proposing solutions that any citizen should ideally be called to adopt. The activity cards were also accompanied by a short animation movie on the same topic.

The project Coordinator, TSCV, put the materials developed to use first by training a group of university students, who in turn were asked to run awareness-raising seminars with about 17,000 children in Turkish schools.
The success of the awareness-raising seminars and the products of the project will be evaluated by an external agency, but the project partners can already read the satisfaction with the project in the eyes of the thousands of children and young people who were directly involved in the project activities and will hopefully be aware of the necessity to work towards inclusion starting from school education and from our very communities.
