Aiming for inclusiveness and non-discrimination in schools, “Creating Educational Programs on Anti-Discrimination on a par with EU Standards”, alias the EDUPAD project, launched the first project meeting and study visit in January 2015 in Istanbul, the Turkish capital, and concluded the second study visit in March 2015, in Palermo, Italy.
The project, funded by the Civil Society Dialogue Between EU and Turkey Programme by the EuropeAid Programme and the Republic of Turkey, aims to contribute to making the necessary adaptations in elementary school programs on anti-discrimination towards people with disabilities, so that they are compatible with EU standards. EDUPAD also provides the opportunity to strengthen the relationships and enable an exchange between the civil society actors in EU member countries and in Turkey.
The study visits, carried out between January and March 2015, allowed the partner organizations, CESIE and the Spastic Children’s Foundation of Turkey, to gain knowledge on the education offered to children with special education needs in the respective countries. Two schools per each partner country were selected and visited by the project team, with an aim to acquire first-hand experience of the educational systems of the two countries, in order to be able to promote new activities and programs in Turkish schools about the education against discrimination of people with special needs.
