Today, February 20th, the international community celebrates the World Day of Social Justice.

This international day aims at fostering Member States to promote national activities for poverty eradication, full employment and decent work, gender equity and access to social well-being and justice for all.

Social development and social justice are critical for the achievement and maintenance of peace and security and cannot be attained in the absence of respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms. Globalization gives new opportunities through trade, investment and technology, entailing an economic growth and the development and improvement of living standards.

However, there remain serious challenges: financial crises, insecurity, poverty, exclusion and inequality as well as hurdles to integration and full participation in the global economy for developing countries.

Social justice is the first precondition to ensure a peaceful coexistence, gender equality, and to safeguard the rights of indigenous and migrants by removing gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability barriers.
