Contribute to strengthening the role of culture and sustainable tourism in economic development, inclusion, and social innovation, with the participation of young people, women, and all stakeholders in the sector, in the towns of Balestrate (Italy) and Nabeul (Tunisia) and their surrounding rural and peri-urban areas, through the enhancement and transmission of cultural heritage.
Context
The project aims to encourage community participation in the enhancement of rural areas through community training and the development of strategies that involve local communities in the processes of preserving tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Both Sicily and Tunisia face numerous challenges in the tourism sector, with threats to their cultural heritage. Mass, low-cost tourism promoted by airlines and travel agencies generates benefits that remain concentrated, without producing economic and social impacts for the local population and surrounding regions.
