DICE: Start of the diversity awareness campaign

4 February 2020Migration, News

How to successfully foster inclusion of newcomers in our European societies and reinforce community members’ intercultural competences?

The DICE project consortium is determined to foster intercultural awareness and processes of inclusion through the developed Training Manual for professionals working with newcomers as well as the creation of an online platform training these professionals on the project’s key topics, namely Diversity, Inclusion, Citizenship and Empowerment.

Additionally contributing to these objectives, is the project’s diversity awareness campaign “ROLL THE DICE!”, which started in January with the publication of the campaign’s trailer on partners’ social media channels. The campaign consists of six different videos, in which Alhagie, Ebra and Gulzar tell us about their experiences regarding moving to Italy from their countries, Gambia and Bangladesh, how it is to live here, trying to understand and be understood.

They share some of the differences and similarities between their cultures of origin and the Italian one, what leaving meant to them, to leave their country, which pieces of themselves they left there when going on their journey.

With their stories, they take us on a six-months long journey, one video at a time, thus fostering the mutual understanding between newcomers and their host societies, which is essential to seeing the great added value diversity brings to every community, every community welcoming diversity thus discovering the beauty of living together.

If you are interested in the stories Alhagie, Ebra and Gulzar tell in the “ROLL THE DICE!” diversity awareness campaign, you can watch the trailer here.

The following videos will be published in the next months:

  • LIVING7th of February 2020
  • UNDERSTANDING 6th of March 2020
  • REMEMBERING3rd of April 2020
  • FEELING 8th of May 2020
  • LEAVING5th of June 2020

To keep yourself updated on the publication of the videos, follow our Facebook page.

At the same time, the project consortium will be working on the creation and nationally testing of the DICE online platform in the next couple of months, before the project concludes with the final conference in June in Nicosia, Cyprus.

SCIREARLY Toolkit: successful practices for reducing school dropout and underachievement

The SCIREARLY project has identified effective practices to combat school dropout and improve inclusive learning, based on studies in 9 European countries. The developed Toolkit offers strategies on teaching methods, school-family-community collaboration, and student well-being, promoting fair and participatory learning environments. The adoption of these strategies has shown concrete benefits, including improved academic performance and greater engagement of students and families.
