Reducing violence in the use of media and new technologies and increasing the awareness of their connected risks and negative aspects for target groups (youngsters from 10 to 16 years old, children, parents , teachers etc.)
This is the goal of the “Virtual stage against violence” project, that involves organizations from Italy, Romania, Austria and Germany.
On March 16 and 17 in Palermo there will be an opening meeting of the “Virtual stage against violence” project, funded by the European Commission’s DAPHNE III program.
The project, that will last for two years, is based on the assumption that new technologies, which have become the main information carriers, are always more accessible to children and youngsters. For this reason they can turn into risks if not used properly, in terms of misleading messages, the chance to meet people with false identities, violent depictions of reality, and a lot more. Nonetheless the project does not spread exclusively a negative image of new technologies, instead it aims to show their positive potential and especially it wants to promote their proper use, as tools that can be a useful and positive support in children’s growth path and daily life.
The project will be carried out using new technologies so they will be at the same time the subject of investigation and the instruments of the activities: new technologies for the investigation of the effects of new technologies and a guide for their proper and conscious use.
At the same time new technologies will be the starting point of a creative and innovative educational path, using an old medium of expression of ideas and entertainment: theatre. New and old instruments intertwining in order to achieve the objectives and enrich the educational value of the project.
