Education is a fundamental right, and ensuring that every student has access to a quality learning environment is a collective responsibility. But when it comes to tackling early leaving of education rates, are there validated and effective practices that have truly succeeded in preventing school dropout and improving student performance?

SCIREARLY has researched and analysed—using scientific criteria, concrete data, and direct observation of contexts where significant improvement has been recorded—practices and activities that have helped reducing dropout rates and promote inclusive, high-quality education.

The Toolkit “Successful Learning Practices for All Children to Thrive” is a valuable resource designed to help schools, teachers, and educational communities creating effective and inclusive learning environments. Based on an extensive study of 20 successful learning environments in 9 European partner countries, the Toolkit focuses on five key areas for building positive learning environments:

  1. Pedagogies
  2. Teacher & Student interaction
  3. Peer collaboration
  4. School-family-community collaboration
  5. Wellbeing and support

Designed to be easily accessible and adaptable to different educational settings, the Toolkit can be used to:

  • Support the development of basic skills (cognitive, social, and transversal);
  • Promote inclusive learning for students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds, ethnic minorities, and migrant communities;
  • Enhance student well-being by creating safe environments and fostering trust and mutual respect;
  • Engage families and communities in building a supportive network around students;
  • Provide practical tools to improve teaching quality and academic expectations.

Research conducted by SCIREARLY in schools across Europe shows that adopting the educational strategies outlined in the Toolkit leads to significant improvements in academic and social outcomes. The Toolkit’s development process involved teachers, students, families, and educational communities from the 9 participating countries in an in-depth analysis and co-creation process, ensuring that the proposed solutions are both effective and easily implementable.

By adopting the strategies outlined in the Toolkit, schools can achieve measurable benefits, including:

  • Reduction in school dropout rates and improved academic performance;
  • Increased student engagement;
  • Greater involvement of families and communities in the educational process.

Implementing the strategies presented in the Toolkit offers a unique opportunity to address the challenges of modern teaching, transforming schools into stimulating, inclusive, and collaborative environments. By adopting these approaches, educators can make a real difference in students’ lives, ensuring that every learner has the opportunity to develop their potential and thrive in their educational journey.
