CESIE is looking for a high motivated Italian girl (23-30 years old) for a short EVS mobility in Kenya (Africa) within the international project “Equality for Change” (EFC).

Short description of the EFC project

The project, co-funded by Erasmus+ (KA2 – Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices. Capacity Building in the field of Youth), deals with the field of gender equality, focusing on overcoming the stereotypical roles and on women’s empowerment within the multimedia field. The aim of the project is to tackle the challenge of one of the basic social principles – gender mainstreaming. We will strive for the improvement of communication skills of youth workers and young women, and strive for the reinforcement of the implementation of the knowledge in the local environment with the goal of greater empowerment and a more active social participation of women. EFC has been running both local and mobility activities, such as EVS.

Hosting organisation

Since 1962 Kenya voluntary development association (KVDA) has been an active partner in community development and has afforded the youth from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas opportunities to serve other society members by investing their time, skills, knowledge and money to render voluntary services in the most remote and usually inaccessible parts of Kenya where poverty levels are extremely high.

EVS activities

The volunteer, together with other 3 volunteers (coming from Holland and Slovenia), will support Msichana Empowered Kuria community activities based on the empowerment of disadvantaged women and girls through use of innovative, practical initiatives. The activities will be mostly manual and intercultural such as:

  • Teaching: Teaching women and girls how to make home made reusable sanitary towels
  • Girl empowerment workshop: Empower young girls from Kuria to attain better health and brighter future
  • Gender sessions: To sensitize young girls about the concepts of gender and sex and how it is related to their own lives
  • Trainings and workshops: Focus on goal five of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Gender equality, Women and Girl child empowerment
  • Inter-cultural learning: interaction with school children coupled with home visits and exposure to development challenges.

Costs

The project covers food, accommodation (in a local family), local transport expenses, VISA, vaccination and medical insurance; moreover every month the volunteer will receive a pocket money for additional personal expenses. The travel costs (from/to Italy) will be covered up to 820 euro.
