Arche Tirol

The ark (“Arche”) of integration, symbol of the project, drawn by a Tyrolean child

Would you like to work in a green rural area in Tirol, working with disable people? The Arche Tirol community is looking for a volunteer under the EVS (Euroepan Volontary Service) programme to be involved in its activities in St. Jodok (Tirol, Austria) for one year, from October 2013 to September 2014 (12 months). St. Jodok is rural but not isolated area, as it is well-connected by train (hourly, 30min journey) to Innsbruck, the capital of Tirol.

Arche Tirol is an international communitiy of both disabled and non-disabled people, who live and work together. At the moment 10 people with learning difficulties live in one of the houses of the community in St. Jodok. They share their everyday-life, eat and work together, do shopping, go on excursions, holidays and organise leisure activities. The 10 habitants of the Arche Tirol are supported by a professional multicultural team.

The volunteer will support the team, composed by six people aged between 20 and 50. The volunteer will participate in various aspects of the daily work and will be able to contribute with his/her own interests and strengths to the project. She/he will be part of the team and learn a lot about working with people with different disabilities.

Profile of the volunteer:

  • Interested in working with people with disabilities (18 years and above)
  • Patient and open-minded
  • Willing to live in a rural village in the mountains
  • Contributing to a multicultural team
  • Some basic knowledge of German would be an advantage as the habitants of the Arche don´t speak any other language

The Arche Tirol was founded in 1992 and is a Christian – ecumenical community. The life at Arche is based on the Arche’s international chart, which highlights every person’s unique importance and dignity. Arche Tirol maintains contacts with many other Arche-communities in Europe, Africa and all over the world.
