How can we rethink the relationship between humans and nature to address the climate crisis? Future Narratives aims to answer this question by creating a network of theater festivals and art projects internationally with the aim of developing new narratives capable of transforming our perception of and relationship with nature. With extensive experience in socially engaged art and their dedication to artistic projects that address climate catastrophe, the seven partners from Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Italy, and Kosovo, will combine their unique expertise. This international consortium aims to rethink the relationship between humans and nature, promoting a radical change in people’s mindset.
The heart of the project lies in the creation of new theatrical narratives that re-embrace the future as a possibility to be explored and practiced. In this vision, the future is no longer seen as an apocalyptic threat, but as a space of playful and creative possibilities.
Starting first, the project will focus on collecting local knowledge to be linked to the European level. Using this foundation, the partners involved will produce their artistic projects capable of imagining a sustainable and environmentally friendly future. New actors and entities will enter the stages of our imagination, advocating for sustainable development, environmentally sound practices, diverse identities, interconnected action, and collective creativity.
Future Narratives for Planet Earth represents a unique opportunity to rediscover the future as something yet to be written. Through art and culture, we can develop a new awareness and a concrete commitment to a better world. To support this vision the project has been animated by two important deliverables so far: the research labs and the International conference.
The research labs took place in April and May 2024, in each partner country. The labs created cooperation with local micro-partners (NGOs, activists, artists, theorists…) to gather knowledge about a new relationship between humans and nature.
The I International Conference took place in Palermo, 27th – 31st May 2024, involving all seven partners to create new perspectives on the relationship between humans & nature. The conference was documented in a promotional video with interviews with some partners, the coordinator, and experts about their impressions of the conference.
Join us on this innovative journey and discover how we can together re-imagine the future of our planet.
