Is it possible to involve children coming from disadvantaged contexts through sporting activities?

Some trainers put into practice some activities discussed during the ATHLISI training course taken place in July 2017.  The sports activities, carried out through a non-formal approach, allowed 15 children from 8 to 12 years old to participate into team building and cooperation games in Piazza Magione – Kalsa quarter, Palermo.

The young participants had an active role during these sessions and through different games they acquired some communication competence and the ability to work in a team.

These activities were very useful also for trainers that implemented new working methods getting positive results from the participants.

After this experience, we can argue that sport is a tool for young children to improve social and emotional aspects of their lives.

Through sports young children can learn how to control their body, develop their sense of awareness and gain self-confidence.

ATHLISI – Promotion of social integration through the training of the coaches and sport clubs is cofounded by the Erasmus+ sport: Support to Collaborative Partnership with the main aim to promote the social inclusion of disadvantaged target groups in sport and support equal access to sport for everyone independently from their socioeconomic background.

The project partnership holds together 7 organisations:
