CESIE are partners of an exciting new European project called CREATE – Creative Therapy in Europe which aims to develop learning resources which will support the professional development of Psychotherapy approaches for professionals working with young migrants experiencing mental health issues.
CREATE will develop training modules which promote partnership working among Arts Therapists (Art Therapists, Dance/Movement Therapists, Drama Therapists or Music Therapists), as well as Psychotherapists who use creative approaches within intervention and existing packages of support for refugee and migrants to EU countries. The project will also produce a training module specifically aimed at supervisors of Arts Therapists working with refugees and migrants.
CREATE is a two year project co-funded by KA2 Strategic Partnership for ADULT education action of the Erasmus+ Programme and brings together 7 organisations from UK, Italy, Germany, France and Ireland with specific expertise in the development of training programmes, creative therapies, refugee and migrant support and mental health services. The partnership includes Merseyside Expanding Horizons – Coordinator (UK), SOLA ARTS (UK), Compagnie Arti-Zanat’ (France), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Theatertherapie e.V. (Germany), Associazione Sementera Onlus (Italy) and Clonakilty Community Arts Centre (Ireland).
The first partnership meeting was held on 1st and 2nd November 2016 in Liverpool UK, hosted by Merseyside Expanding Horizons. During the meeting, representatives from each partner organisation met to plan the implementation of the project. The partnership shared information and good practices on different creative therapy methods to support and rehabilitate marginalised clients.
The first phase of the project is dedicated to the delivery of the research which will include a State of the Art Review on resettlement packages and then initial consultation with stakeholders and refugee and migrant communities through interviews and small focus groups in each partner country. The next event for the project will be a 5 day training course held in Liverpool UK in January 2017 facilitated by SOLA ARTS. The training event will bring together Creative Therapists and managers from each of the partner organisations and enable each participant to share with one another their Creative Therapy Techniques. It will also develop approaches and techniques which will form the curriculum for the training modules for Creative Therapists that will be delivered at local level with 60 refugees and migrants in total.
