The European Day aims at raising a deeper awareness on EU institutions, to spread the ideas that once were only shared by few men like Robert Schuman and now are shared by millions, to remember this historical moment, and to celebrate the togetherness of the 28 countries that form the European Union.
This year, Europe Day becomes more important than ever, due to how close it is to the European Elections 2014, when, between the 22th and the 25th, depending on the country, we will elect our representatives in the European Parliament for the next five years. These Elections will be surely affected by this tough recession moment, criticism, concern and conflict.
However, as Robert Schuman said on the 9th of May of 1950, “Europe will not be made all at once, or according to a single plan. It will be built through concrete achievements which first create a de facto solidarity.”. 64 years later, the European Union is still growing, and we can celebrate it this 9th of May.
