basidaThe EVS project will take place in the home that BASIDA has in Manzanares.

Manzanares is a town in the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La-Mancha, located 10 km. away from Ciudad Real and 175 km. from Madrid city.

The home of Basida is located 10 kms. away from the city. Due to this distance, all people in the organisation offer transport facilities to the volunteers if it is needed or if they need it.

We will now detail the variety of programmes we carry out:

This program tries to offer a fitting place, a warm home and a family for those people of both sexes, drug addicts, HIV-positives, AIDS people, as well as other terminal diseases due to the advanced stage of the disease they have no other alternative than dying in prison, in the hospital or in the street.

Therefore we try: sick people recover their personal worth increasing the level of their own esteem and valuation; to offer the suitable medical and health cares to them for the state of their disease; to offer, in the cases it is possible, a social reintegration to them.

This program tries to provide and diffuse rigorous data which contribute to clarify and demythologise AIDS.

The program allows to educate professional and non-professional people so that in an altruist way can face all the situations which AIDS and drug addiction set out.

This program has as objectives the social insertion and reintegration depending on the cases of those residents who have carried out their disintoxication and rehabilitation program and those who are HIV and AIDS and thanks to the new treatments have their disease.

The volunteers will live in the Home and can use all its facilities. They shall also adapt to the rules of the Centre and to meal times. They will be hosted in a room with bathroom (alone or shared with another volunteer).

As many users live in the centre as an alternative to the prison and in re-education programmes, it is very important that volunteers follow certain rules, such as not smoking or drinking in the home, dress comfortable clothes and follow the indications and recommendations of Basida-Manzanares.

Some of the most frequent activities to be carried out by the volunteers are: attendance to sick people and to those who are in bed; help in the activities of physical rehabilitation and of occupational therapy for their cognitive rehabilitation; participation in workshops (carpentry, gardening, painting…); participation in the educative department: workshop of adult literacy, out-of-school support to children who live in the hosting home; collaboration with organization of workshops and occupational activities: magazine, theatre, computer science, yoga and relaxation, sport activities,… workshop; collaboration with organization of workshops and leisure activities (excursions, cultural activities,…).

The profile of the volunteers we would like to cooperate in our organization is: people of any sex, from different countries in Europe and of any culture, race or religion.

People with a minimum stage of maturity who are mainly raised awareness and interested in knowing the problems created by the HIV/AIDS and the drug dependences and in sharing some days of experience with these groups, and furthermore, they have a motivation to learn and/or improve the language and to know the Spanish culture.

People able of assuming the fulfilment of our dynamics and our co-existence rules (they may not consume drugs, including TOBACCO OR ALCOHOL).

Motivation and EVS experience: the opportunity of living in hosting homes and of having a direct experience and a knowledge as many the problems linked with AIDS as the drugs consumption makes possible that these young people raise their awareness with the people who suffer.
