What actions can prevent gender-based violence in sports and promote a more inclusive environment?
Sport GVP aims to address gender-based violence in the sports sector by collecting data and promoting targeted policies. The initiative aims to create a safer and more inclusive sports environment free from discrimination and violence.
At the heart of the project is the generation of detailed data on the prevalence and different manifestations of GBV in sport. This fundamental data collection aims to deepen understanding of the problem and guide the development of targeted and effective interventions. The project also focuses on promoting equality and inclusion within the sports community, addressing not only violence against individuals, but also related challenges such as racism, discrimination and intolerance.
A key objective is to pave the way for practical and impactful policies and actions that can be adopted within sports communities. By promoting a safer and more inclusive environment, the initiative aims to create lasting change by making sport a space free from violence and inequality.
Following the project launch, a kick-off meeting, hosted by CARDET, was held on 25 and 26 April in Nicosia, Cyprus. The meeting brought together all project partners and served to outline the project’s objectives, timelines and strategies, ensuring a coordinated approach to achieving the initiative’s goals.
