Minors and young adults are the first victims of exploitation in prostitution. The phenomenon of child prostitution, long denied, has recently begun to emerge timidly. The subject is taboo. In Europe, there is not enough research or policy to combat, prevent and support the children exploited in prostitution. The absence of information on the topic reinforces the invisibility of the phenomenon and the lack of special consideration for the young victims of exploitation in prostitution. It is therefore imperative to improve knowledge of the phenomenon.

In an attempt to fill some of these gaps we have published a report on the exploitation of child prostitution in Italy accessible here.

This report gives a legal framework at national and European level through a literature review and semi-structured interviews with people who are experts in legal and social welfare aspects. You will find data, statistics and profiles of victims but also prevention and protection measures and actions, and a mapping of the main services and agencies active on the territory.

Inform to understand, understand to act. The idea behind the JERICHO project is to raise public awareness on the issue of child prostitution, to help people understand the phenomenon, to talk about it, to give it a name so that it is no longer ignored by families, young people, authorities and institutions. Naming it means making it exist.
