CESIE is looking for 2 volunteers aged between 18 and 30 for an European Voluntary Service (EVS) project in Hanoi, Vietnam.
When?
6 months from 30th August 2016.
What?
Within the 2IQM – Initiative for an International Qualitative Mentoring project (Erasmus+ KA 2 – Capacity Building, Youth), which aims at maximizing the positive impact of volunteering on the personal and/or professional development of volunteers, CESIE will select 2 EVS volunteers for a six month project in Vietnam.
The hosting organisation is Vietnam and Friends based in Hanoi, Vietnam. It is an NGO established at the beginning of 2011 that is committed to provide support and education to people in need and with visual disabilities, as well as environmental protection activities.
The objectives of the organisation are mainly to:
- Provide the necessary skills to people in need and with visual disabilities for better chances to find a job in the future (e.g. English classes, customer service…);
- Support such people in finding a job (e.g. building connections with CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), NGOs…);
- Raise awareness about environmental protection within the local Community.
Where?
In agreement with the volunteers and the hosting organisations, the EVS will be in one of the two organisations:
- Nguyen Dinh Chieu school for blind children
It is a primary and secondary school for blind and sighted students, and it also has a center for blind adults. Over 1000 sighted students study together with over 140 blind and low vision students. Since it was established, this school has provided their visual impaired students with many extra classes for the development of practical skills, such as musical, physiotherapy and computer classes. These skills are expected to help them to find a job when they graduate.
- Training and Adaptability center for blind adults
This center was established in 1997 to give visual impaired people the opportunity to actively join the community initiatives and organize activities. They get advice and support, and trainings like administration, IT and presentation skills as well as English courses. Most of the students will be leaders within the local blind associations in the future after their graduate.
Main responsibilities and activities of the volunteers:
The volunteers’ activities will differ according to the organisation they are involved in:
- Nguyen Dinh Chieu school for blind children
Each volunteer will have his/her own class (max. 8 students) and get support from one local volunteer in every lesson. The volunteer prepares the lessons in advance on the basis of the provided English book and should try to improve 4 skills: listening, reading, writing and most important, speaking. The volunteer should also use all his/ her creativity to make the lessons interesting for the students (e.g. with music, games, funny stories, audio books) and different from their strict regular classes. Generally the students are very shy and not very confident when speaking English, so the selected volunteer is expected to be patient, sensitive and motivating.
- Training and Adaptability center for blind adults
Within this centre, there are around 40 blind adults who like to practise their English in an English course and English club. The age of the members of the English club is between 20 and 40 years and their English levels differ a lot from each other. They are eager to speak, exchange and discuss about all kind of topics. The club will be held 1 or 2 times per week for 2 hours.
Costs?
- Food, accommodation and local transports are fully covered by the host organisation. Furthermore the volunteer will receive a monthly pocket money for personal expenses.
- Travel costs (go and back) are covered up to a maximum of 1100€.
- Health insurance and visa costs are covered up to a maximum of 500€ and vaccinations up to 200€.
