The Tour2Include project’s main aim is to foster the tourism-related competences of migrants wishing to work in this sector. To this purpose a training programme and an e-learning platform have been created based on the needs of both, tourism employers and migrants themselves.
The Covid-19 pandemic has changed our working environment a lot. Palermo’s labour market, which as the rest of Sicily, is heavily relying on the tourism sector has been hit especially hard. Many people have not been working with restaurants, bars and hotels closed or completely lost their jobs as a consequence. In this context and the frame of the Tour2Include project, CESIE co-organised an event regarding migrants’ labour market inclusion in Palermo in times of Covid-19, which took place on the 25th of June at the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa.
Goal was to discuss about the ongoing pandemic and its effects on Palermo’s labour market with special regards to migrant workers as well as to present educational offers and services fostering the target’s labour market inclusion. Hence, the event saw the participation of several NGOs and job centres providing access to work and training opportunities as well as supporting migrants’ entrepreneurism.
After a first, very insightful discussion between all involved actors and the presentation of services offered by the participating NGOs, the Tour2Include project and training as well as the related platform have been presented to the audience, followed by a fair of educational offers, which gave participants the chance to get to know the various trainings and workshops in more detail. In addition, the event provided the chance for all actors to get to know each other in general, thus fostering the creation of networks and active collaboration in the field of migrants’ labour market inclusion.
Next steps
The next and final step will be the pilot of the developed training for migrants wishing to work in the tourism sector with a group of people, thus allowing the partnership to evaluate their adequacy to the needs of this target group, finally allowing partners to adapt the e-learning platform, if necessary.
